TREJO’S TACOS
NOW SERVING AT THE ORIGINAL FARMERS MARKET

Danny Trejo is at it again. The movie star who has been making a name for himself most recently as a respected restaurateur with his Trejo’s Tacos, Trejo’s Cantina, and Trejo’s Coffee and Donuts has opened yet another taco shop, this time at the iconic Original Farmers Market.

The colorful and art-filled taqueria is a natural fit for the historic location; with both brands having deep, local roots.

“I’ve been coming to The Original Farmers Market since I was a kid, and as an adult I have fond memories hanging out with my best friend, Eddie Bunker,” says founder Danny Trejo. “We would walk around and try all the fresh food from the different businesses. Now, having my own restaurant at such an iconic location makes me pinch myself. This is a dream.”

Trejo’s Tacos offers chef-driven Mexican cuisine with distinctive twists that set us apart. The menu is inspired by traditional Mexican dishes, but infuses fresh, healthy and bold ingredients that are the soul of the Los Angeles food scene.

Exclusive to the Trejo’s Farmers Market taco shop is the al pastor tacos, which are an absolute favorite. During my recent visit, I also loved the fried chicken tacos; although I think next time I’ll elevate my order to a fried chicken burrito.  This was the first time I had tried the fried chicken and surprisingly found it to be delicious.

Trejo’s Taco’s menu features a slew of choices—something for everyone. Options include steak, carnitas, barbacoa, chicken tikka, grilled chicken, fried chicken, Baja fish, spicy shrimp, blackened salmon, and not-meat selections such as young jackfruit, cauliflower, and mushroom.

"We have different tacos," Trejo said. "It’s just stuff that everybody likes. Here, we wanted to include everybody, so we have a great vegan menu and gluten-free menu. There’s a street corn. It’s my agent Gloria’s recipe. But you have to understand — you can throw a dart at our menu and get a great taco."

Entrees come as tacos, burritos or bowls. The burritos are hearty and filling and may be the best deal on the menu. I know I can’t wait to order my fried chicken burrito.
At age 75, success couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Succeeding with all his ventures is also a nod to Danny Trejo's mother, which just makes this an even sweeter victory.
“My mom always wanted a restaurant but my dad was the Mexican ‘Archie Bunker’ so every time we talked about a restaurant he’d say, ‘I got a kitchen right there.’ We opened Trejo’s Tacos on La Brea and killed it; just killed it. Then we opened Trejo’s Cantina and did the same thing. Now we have Trejo’s Coffee & Donuts and here we are at [another] Trejo’s.”
