During my stay, I made my home base in Healdsburg, a short ride away from the Santa Rose airport. From there, I had plenty of options for fine dining and wonderful choices for exquisite wine tasting. Choose from the biggest and most opulent wineries, such as Kendall-Jackson, Francis Coppola, and J Vineyards, to more secluded and smaller producers such as Acorn Winery where you need a reservation in advance and you’ll get a private tour of the vineyards by the actual winemaker.

I stayed at the charming Haydon Street Inn bed and breakfast, a comfy Queen Anne, Victorian style inn with eight guest rooms. With lovely and relaxing rooms, step inside this beautiful home and you know you’re away for some much appreciated R&R (rest and recreation). I loved the wrap-around porch and the hammock in the garden is perfect for drifting away, also all king rooms have fireplaces, whirlpool tubs and refrigerators.

There’s a complimentary Wine Hour everyday at 6pm and another wonderful treat about this jewel is the amazing three-course breakfast that’s included. Haydon Street Inn chef and owner John Harasty is the former Executive Chef at Churchill Downs (home to the Kentucky Derby) so be prepared for a stellar breakfast every morning. Everything is fresh and homemade, from the baked goods to the meats that Harasty smokes himself. Entrees may include Eggs Benedict, Stuffed French Toast, Bananas Foster Pancakes, or one of many styles of quiche or omelet.

The inn was built in 1912 originally as the family home to Andrew and Rose Passalaqua, now husband and wife innkeepers John Harasty and Keren Colsten run a wonderful B&B just ripe for unwinding and relaxing. They will even ship your wine for you from the inn if you can’t be bothered to take it back with you to the airport or don’t want to pack it with you if you’re driving. Now that’s service!
