60OUT ESCAPE ROOM
CAN YOU ESCAPE FROM ‘THE CARTEL’?

I was always somewhat skeptical about escape rooms, that is, until I actually tried it. Then I was hooked. They’re a fun test of wits and it’s fascinating to see how individual personalities come into play—whom rises as team leader; who becomes the dominant player; and who becomes just plain annoying?

I’ve found 60Out Escape Rooms to be some of the most elaborate and challenging games in town. So when I had the opportunity to test out their ‘Cartel’ game, I jumped at the challenge.

Without giving much away, you are an undercover DEA agent in the middle of a special operation. You recently got word that the leader of the Juarez Cartel liked the product you sent him and now he wants to meet up with you. The Juarez Cartel is known for its dangerous and brutal antics, so, if things start to go south, it may be curtains for you.

As with most 60Out Escape Room games, there is a 60-minute time limit. The ‘Cartel’ experience is best for 2-6 players and is described as medium in difficulty.

While the real life violence surrounding the Mexican cartel is no laughing matter, this is a game for someone who isn’t looking to take things too serious. Yes, the cartel is heinous, but this is a fun game where it’s do-or-die to make it out alive in an actual non-threatening environment.

You’ll find you and your compadres locked in a van with cartel gunmen outside. You need to escape and keep escaping in order to not become a cartel victim. Billed as a “medium” game, it’s still a pretty challenging game. There is lots to think about and puzzles to solve but with time running out and your life on the line, it really makes for a fun-filled challenge.

I’ve done ghost ship themed escape rooms, as well as bank heist, and even one set in an asylum—this one seemed the most intense. Definitely not the hardest, although still challenging, I liked the pace and the tone of the game. This is a good one to try if you find yourself on the east side of town.

Play ‘The Cartel’ at 60out Escape Rooms, located at 1333 W. Temple Street. Call 323-373-3101.
