THE ALLBRIGHT WEST HOLLYWOOD
LAUNCHES AFTERNOON TEA
Staying true to its British roots, The AllBright, a chic West Hollywood private club for women, has launched Afternoon Tea service.
The club, which already has two all-women’s clubs in London, is redefining afternoon sophistication with this afternoon tea at its WeHo outpost, the first of many clubs the group will open in the U.S.
If you’re like me, you may be wondering what the difference is, or if there’s a difference at all, between afternoon tea and high tea, which is a phrase that’s often bandied about when it comes to posh tea drinking.
Afternoon tea, AKA low tea, is called so because it is most often taken at a low table, such as a coffee table in a sitting room, while high tea is often served at a high table, like a dining table or high counter, usually at the end of the workday.
Set up in The AllBright’s sunny second floor lounge, although afternoon tea may eventually be served on the fab rooftop, this is a great way for members and guests to get away from the mundane and enjoy the finer things.
To make matters even more refined, The AllBright has partnered with Ladurée, a French luxury bakery and sweets maker, to prepare its divine vegan pastries. Yes, this afternoon tea is a vegan delight.
During our afternoon tea session, our lovely arrangement of bites included tea sandwiches, including Provencale Vegetable & Basil; Minted Cucumber; and Hummus & Roasted Carrot (this one in particular was out of this world good).
The Patisserie (pastries and sweets) included Hazelnut & Chocolate Plaisir Sucré (crispy and gourmet Dacquoise cake with hazelnuts, praline and milk chocolate topped with milk chocolate); Lemon Meringue Tartlet; Vanilla Macaron; and Rose & Raspberry Ispahan (an inspired macaron cake).
And then of course there are the teas. Tea selections included Art of Tea; Egyptian Chamomile; Sencha Green; Earl Grey; English Breakfast; and Pacific Coast Mint.
I will admit that afternoon tea is a very pleasant way to spend a long and lazy afternoon. A little bit “la de da”, it seems to proper but do it enough time and I presume it will just feel normal, although pleasant and posh I’m sure.
The AllBright aims to offer its members a setting and platform for women to flourish and thrive. Afternoon tea may not be a staunch and serious affair but it relaxing and enjoyable and a good as place as any for members to meet and unite.
