What’s the first thing that you think of when you hear “mood-boosting psychedelic water”?  It has to be getting high, right?  There aren’t too many other reactions associated to the word “psychedelic” but it seems that way of thinking is actually getting pretty outdated.  That’s where Psychedelic Water and its mantra Boost Your Mood comes into the picture.

Psychedelic Water is apparently leading the non-alcoholic and sober curious movement.  I was unaware that there even is such a movement.  Personally, I’m hardly ever non-alcoholic curious.  But for those who can’t drink or want to drink less, there should be available options and Psychedelic Water is there for just that purpose.

Available at numerous retail outlets, including Urban Outfitters and Erewhon Market, Psychedelic Water boasts imbibers will achieve a state of happiness, mental clarity and creative bliss.

Billed as the first legal psychedelic brand of its kind, Psychedelic Water is made with kava root, damiana leaf, and green tea leaf extract.  It is a psychoactive, lightly carbonated blend that creates a sense of euphoria for a hangover-free experience.  Flavors include Prickly Pear, Oolong + Orange Blossom, Hibiscus + Lime, and Blackberry + Yuzu.

Don’t worry, this won’t make you trip out as the herbs are mild.  You’re supposed to feel a calming sensation that will make you feel good. While kava and damiana have psychoactive elements, we aren’t talking LSD in a can here.  Don’t prepare to blast off into another groovy dimension.  FYI, the powers-that-be do warn that you do not mix Psychedelic Water with alcohol (my first thought was actually to spike the drink with booze—guess not) nor drive during or after consuming the beverage.

I recently found myself with a case of Psychedelic Water and I was game to try the product and boost my mood.  I was at home, very chill and sat back and popped open a can of the Hibiscus + Lime.  I had read that nearly 80% of consumers experience tingling on their tongue or that some people experience gastro-intestinal issues.  I didn’t get either of those two sensations, thank goodness, at least about possible stomach cramps.  To be honest, I didn’t really experience much of anything.

The taste of the “waters” is actually pleasant so at the very least you will enjoy a tasty beverage, albeit at $24 for a mixed four-pack.  For me, I didn’t feel any euphoria nor a burst of energy.  I was waiting for something to happen, to possibly slightly trip but that just wasn’t the case.  While I would have liked to spike the drink with tequila or mezcal, I wasn’t really going to go against the advisory—definitely not my first time.  So instead I just chilled out.  Later that same night, I tried the Prickly Pear, wondering if there would be some kind of double dose effect, but nothing happened.

But now I hear that the Psychedelic Water folks are launching the world’s first legal psychedelic microdose product of its kind with the breakthrough Psychedelic Functional Microdose—formulated for focus, memory and positivity.  Maybe that’s where more of a sensation will be found.

While the Psychedelic Water taste is good, I think I’ll stick with the enjoyment that comes from a well-made home cocktail, which with quality ingredients and in moderation is a hangover-free experience too.
