PINK TACO
SUNSET STRIP FAVE NOW SERVES WEEKEND BRUNCH
A Sunset Strip go-to spot for drinks and Mexican fare, Pink Taco has been a favorite for revelers and foodies for years. More than just a Mexican restaurant, Pink Taco features an almost club-like energy that’s perfect before or after a night on the town. But now it’s new weekend brunch, although a tad low key, has proven just as fun and satisfying.
To me, it’s not brunch unless you’re drinking and I recommend starting off with a spicy Bloody Mary (a brunch staple) or the extremely refreshing Paloma with Cazadores blanco and fresh grapefruit served in a Squirt can. Say hello to your new brunch bestie as it’s the ultimate day drink. The Avocado Chile cocktail with Casamigos blanco served with a chile lime salted rim is good to the taste and good for your too.
It’s a little different checking out the Sunset Strip action during daylight but a long boozy brunch is a great way to recover from the night before or just enjoy the weekend the way it should be.
If you want to go healthy, opt for mixed fruit or house made granola, but I say forget that and instead start with the Avocado Toast and feel free to add bacon and an egg. Likewise, the Eggs Benedict, especially with chorizo and chorizo hollandaise, is a favorite.
If you really want to do Mexican brunch right, go for the bad ass Breakfast Burrito or the Chilaquiles Verdes with green chile, cotija cheese, Mexican crema, pickled jalapeños and two fried eggs. Consider this one a must-have. If you’re feeling a little adventurous and you’re splitting dishes, the Chile Relleño with chicken chorizo, black beans, egg whites, cotija cheese, Mexican crema, ranchera salsa and avocado does not disappoint.
If you want to make brunch a decadent affair, there’s the Mexican Bread Pudding French Toast. Need I say more? I had enough self-control to skip the French toast and instead sent from Blood Mary to Paloma to margaritas (frozen and regular) to the tasty Slow & Low rider with Slow & Low rye, tamarind syrup and fresh lime. I think once you get to real cocktails brunch is over and now it’s just serious day drinking.
Pink Taco has always proven a great place to people watch and doing so in daylight is no different. It’s still a festive space with good day drinking cocktails. For me, it doesn’t get any better than a Paloma and chips and salsa on a weekend afternoon—with an order of chilaquiles on the way of course. And be bold and opt of mezcal instead of tequila and elevate the taste of your Paloma. Believe me, your day will really start right.
Brunch at Pink Taco, located at 8225 Sunset Blvd, is served Saturday & Sunday from 11am to 3pm. And happy hour is every damn day from 3pm to 7pm. Call 323-380-7474Story and Photography By: Jose Martinez
