LOCAL PICS & JAVA:
NOURISHMENT FOR THE SOUL & BODY

Stopped by Los Feliz coffeehouse Psychobabble Cafe and spotted some very cool art on the wall. Local photographer Denise Chacon currently has her work on display through the end of March.

Described by the photographer as “hidden snapshots” of Los Angeles, her photos offer a candid moment in time of the city we call home. Nearly a dozen photos, black & white as well as color, take you on an inspiring, visual tour.

Buy some caffeine and walk around the city via these impressive shots. Here’s a quick Q&A with the artist.

LAdineNclub.com: Would you consider Los Angeles your muse?
Denise Chacon: Yes, since I was a kid I’ve been intrigued by Los Angeles.  Sure, there’s the shopping, sports and the great weather, most days, but I’m also touched by the raw beauty of the city. I often find this raw beauty on urban photo hikes.

What do you like best about urban photography?
DC:
I will choose an area in and around Los Angles and simply walk, camera in hand. On these walks, I discover pockets of Los Angeles that would normally go unnoticed, simple things like train tracks, steps and stairways on a side of a hill or even a telephone booth in front of a graffiti mural. It’s like finding the little gems in a treasure hunt.

Talk about your "camera eye" and what of L.A. attracts you the most.
DC:
I’m attracted by the diverse places to shoot. While Hollywood Blvd and the Grove can be nice spots for snapping pictures, there are many photo ops elsewhere… downtown, urban streets, the Hollywood hills, as well as the Pacific Ocean. The possibilities of places to shoot are endless.

Does your current have a title, and if not what would you call it?
DC: My show does not have a name, but if I had to give it a name it would be “hidden snapshots.”
