CUCINA ROMANA HITS WEST THIRD STREET

We all love a good old-fashioned pizzeria that serves fab pizza, but what exactly is an Italian “pinsa”?  From the Latin word “pinsere”, it means “to press” and in fact, this ancient style of pizza-making dates back to the Roman Empire. And now, Oste, a truncated version of Osteria and a new pinsa parlor on trendy West Third Street, has modernized the original Roman pinsa recipe.

Oste’s pinsa is made from a blend of premium quality flours, rice, soy, wheat, and dry natural aroma—all GMO-free grains. So exactly how do pizza and pinsa differ?  Well, pinsa has 48% less sugar than pizza; 85% less fat; 33% less calories; as well as 100% less cholesterol. Also, the pinsa is more rectangle than the beloved pizza pie round shape.

Located in the former Little Next Door location, Oste’s opening was delayed because of the pandemic. Pizzas and wine were the original opening focus with crudos, salads, pasta, and more making their way onto the menu in time.

The pinsas are pricey but they are rich, filling and delicious. The Carbonara with bacon, pecorino romano and egg is a must-try. Likewise, the Rossa Pepperoni with a slew of pepperonis delights, as does the decadent Funghi with scamorza cheese, wild mushrooms, garlic, and truffle oil.

Oste is a welcome treat for wine, low ABV cocktails and pinsa pies—albeit rectangle in shape. Enjoy to-go or for outdoor dining.

Oste is located at 8142 W. 3rd Street. Open Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from noon to 9pm, and Friday and Saturday from noon to 9:30pm.  Closed Monday and Tuesday.  Call 323-413-2372.
