IN SEARCH OF THE PERFECT HUMAN DIET Hunt Thompson Media…90min…Not Rated
It’s no secret that obesity is at an all-time high. People today are as unhealthy as ever and always on the lookout for the next great “diet” to make us skinny and fit. But if time has taught us anything it’s that the quick fix is not always the best solution.
CJ Hunt, a broadcast journalist with over 20 years experience, in addition to being the author of two books on diet and health, has written and directed the documentary In Search of the Perfect Human Diet, which evolved from his true-life story, beginning in 1978 when paramedics brought him back to life at the age of 24 after suffering a full cardiac arrest while jogging. This incident evoked an intense passion to find out how we can all achieve longer, healthier and happier lives.
In Search of the Perfect Human Diet is an extensive and exhaustive exploration into the epidemic of overweight, obesity and diet-related disease - the #1 killer in America. The film explores modern dietary science, previous historical findings, ancestral native diets and the emerging field of human dietary evolution; revealing for the first time, the authentic human diet.
The documentary presents interviews and explorations with many of the world's top scientists and researchers in the fields of archaeological science, paleo and forensic anthropology, nutrition and metabolism, biomolecular archaeology, and the emerging field of human dietary evolution. It provides load of information, which often contradicts from expert to expert. Should we avoid meat and become vegans or vegetarians? One expert says our bodies were not made to eat meat, while another says eating only vegetables with no meat is not at all healthy. Go figure?
Hunt seems to favor the Paleo diet, which adopts man’s hunter and gatherer way of eating, which avoids eating processed foods, including, according to one expert, whole grains such as bread. Hunt calls his journey an “enlightening treasure hunt” to a healthier and better way of life. The film offers hard scientific proof to what we ate and were and how modern technology after the Industrial Revolution has changed our diet and bodies and not for the better.
In Search of the Perfect Human Diet isn’t the most engaging of documentaries as it’s mostly talking heads onscreen but it does offer a lot of information that we will eventually have to decide what is best for us, but a change is definitely in need by looking at our collective ever-growing waistline.
