RELEASES TATTOO POETRY BOOK
GET TO KNOW THE MAN BENEATH THE INK

Hollywood’s consummate villain and scene-stealing character actor, Robert LaSardo, best known for his groundbreaking work on “Nip/Tuck” as well as cult favorites like Death Race and Autopsy, has penned his first book entitled Choices: Inside Out, an in depth and intimate book of poetry and jarring images of his numerous tattoos.

A photographic and poetic journey into LaSardo’s tortured soul, the riveting coffee table book, photographed by Richard Wayne Miller, offers the an intimate glimpse at his troubled youth and never shies away from the pain that eventually led to his onscreen success.

Going back to his days raised in Brooklyn, LaSardo, a latchkey kid raised watching Burt Lancaster, James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson, Lana Turner, and Rita Hayworth movies, found solace with cinema. But before that he was raised in a foster care, plagued by trouble and unrest while managing to graduate with honors from the High School of Performing Arts in NYC.

The actor has said in the past that acting “was the closest thing to freedom that I felt because the world I was growing up in was so chaotic. It made me feel good and I felt love that I didn’t feel anywhere else. I saw the power of imagination. This was my only escape.”

He also found catharsis with the tattoo needle and eventually began to fill up the canvas that is his body. His vivid tattoo images are fascinating, unsettling and uplifting all at the same time. The same ink that has made him known as the “tattooed guy” now are front and center accompanied with honest, unapologetic prose. A raw and jaw-dropping book, LaSardo states, “Every tattoo has its own life, its own story and literally its own poetic connection.”

And each gritty heartfelt piece inspires the reader to do and be more he hopes.
 
A percentage of the proceeds will benefit USA Cares that provides financial and advocacy assistance to active duty U.S. military service personnel, veterans and their families. LaSardo, a veteran himself, who at one time trained attack dogs in the Aleutian Islands, reflects, “Though, ‘til this day, I miss all my buddies from Cobble Hill, and even though I cannot return to my past, I still carry them all, inside and out.”
