THE CHARLESTON SUPPER CLUB
SUNDAYJAZZ BRUNCH HITS ALL THE RIGHT NOTES

It’s a well known fact that Santa Monica’s Charleston Super Club offers one of the best happy hours in town—featuring bottomless house wine and domestic beer. In addition to its impressive menu and great setting for live music, it also hosts a killer Sunday Jazz Brunch every week from 10:30 am to 3pm.

Featuring live music from the Richard Glaser Band, brunch also includes bottomless mimosas, which really helps to create a fun and festival atmosphere to truly enjoy a lazy Sunday.

During our recent visit for Sunday brunch, we started off with lovely sangria, and a John Daly (billed as Arnold Palmer’s drunken buddy). This sweet tea features Citrus vodka, triple sec, passion tea and lemonade. Honestly, it was too sweet for me but then again, I do like my cocktails with more bite than sweetness. That’s when I made the call to go bottomless—with mimosas that is.

As the live jazz music started, we opted for the Short Rib Benedict, served on an English muffin with coleslaw, hollandaise with chorizo potatoes, and the Lobster Benedict prepared with heirloom tomato, cabbage, English muffin with whole-grain mustard hollandaise, and a side of fresh fruit.

Both dishes are very savory and satisfying. They’re not huge orders, so don’t think of brunch here as gluttonous, but they are hearty and do leave room for much mimosa.

Another great option is the tasty and filling Chicken & Waffles, made with buttermilk brined fried chicken, waffle, compound butter, and served with maple syrup. This is a way go. In case you want to pair it with a cocktail, the Victoria’s Secret, made with Herradura Reposado, strawberries and the rest is a secret, is a good call. This drink is a little sweet, thanks to the strawberries, which go great with the waffles, but also potent because of the phenomenal Herradura, which goes great with the savory chicken. Another way to go is with the Georgia Peach, made with Grey Goose, St. Germain, peach puree, lemon, and basil, as it’s very light and refreshing and pairs well with the eclectic flavor of Chicken & Waffles.

Other dishes that caught my eye included the Maple Glazed Pork Belly, served with potato hash, sunny side egg, and toast, and the Sweet Potato Pancakes—pecan ample butter, blood orange, maple syrup, and side of bacon or sausage.

Jazz Brunch at The Charleston really hits the spot. Enjoy a good brunch, watch some great live music played before you, take a gander at the game going on, and enjoy some bottomless mimosa as you relax to no end on a wonderful Sunday afternoon.
