MARKET TAVERN’S SUNDAY ROAST
A BRITISH TRADITION DELIGHTS AT FARMERS MARKET
While the British may not be known for possessing fine elevated cuisine, their beloved Sunday roast is a highly popular traditional meal that consists of roasted meat, roast potatoes and accompaniments such as Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, gravy and mint sauce. And at Market Tavern, a contemporary British put at the famed Original Farmers Market, the Sunday Roast has become a popular scene where Brits and beyond feast on hearty comfort food.
At Market Tavern, the Sunday Roast mantra is simple: Come hungry, leave happy! The popular Sunday Roast runs from noon to 4 pm or until there is no food left. FYI, reservations are highly recommended as space become scarce and food does run out.
The weekly fab feast consists of your choice of main dish, including roast beef and horseradish, half roast chicken, sage and onion stuffing, or lamb leg with mint sauce. The trimmings consist of peas, carrots, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, roast potato, Yorkies (Yorkshire pudding), and gravy. The roast beef and lamb cost $28 and the half roast chicken costs $26. There’s even a bottomless option to wet your whistle. All you can drink mimosa costs $20; Margaritas $24; and Bloody Mary’s $20.
At Market Tavern’s Sunday Roast, the meats (roast beef and lamb) are served sliced and lean. Both are terrific choices. And the chicken comes alongside the most delicious stuffing. I will be back just for that stuffing. As for the sides, the carrots and peas satisfy your need for healthy greens, while the tasty and cheesy cauliflower comes across more like mac n’ cheese than veggies. And the Yorkshire pudding is just out-of-this-world greatness.
Whether you opt to eat indoors or dine outside, the setting is safe and the meal so hearty and comfy. This is the way to properly do Sunday Funday.
Sunday Roast runs from noon to 4pm at Market Tavern, located at 6333 W. Third Street at The Original Farmers Market. Call 323-452-9299.
