LA AX
LOS ANGELES’ PREMIER AXE THROWING SOCIAL CLUB
Either while watching The Walking Dead or any number of zombie fun-filled apocalypse action entertainment, the thought of wielding an ax (or axe) has definitely crossed my mind. What would it be like to hurl an ax at the living dead? How heroic or badass would that feeling be?
Well, guess no more because LA AX is now upon us. Billed as L.A.’s first axe throwing social club, this really is a thing. We’re talking Paul Bunyan lumberjack full throttle amusement.
Axe throwing is an exciting pastime by way of Canada of course and it has now exploded into a sport that is making waves internationally. But whether you’re a casual thrower or a serious professional, hurling axes is fun, fun, fun!
Impossibly entertaining and even a little cathartic, axe throwing is a damn good time.
LA AX is a 12,500 square feet facility with 30 lanes to throw axes for up to as many as 325 people at one time. At first, it’s very challenging but if you have an ounce of competitive nature in you, you will definitely want to and probably will get better with each toss. There are instructors and rules to follow, this isn’t complete chaos, but it is a chaotic good time.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed time spent at the gun range, golf range and skeet shooting (see When a Food Blogger Goes on the Wagon) and throwing axes is no different. It’s a total blast.
Axe throwing costs $40 for a private group session and $25 for a one-hour public walk-in session. This is an adult good time for folks 21+. If you’re nervous, walk in and watch. And in no time, you will want to pick up an axe of your own. FYI, all guests are required to wear closed-toe shoes. Walk-in hours are Monday through Wednesday from 6-10pm, Thursday and Friday from 6-11pm, Saturday from 5-11pm and Sunday from 4-9pm.
New locations will open soon in Santa Monica, Culver City, Anaheim, West Valley, Riverside, and Bakersfield.
LA AX is located at 7308 Coldwater Canyon Ave in North Hollywood. Call 888-979-LAAX.
