KÖE
SOLID ORGANIC KOMBUCHA

I’ve been hearing about the benefits of kombucha for years but I could never get past the fact that I really don’t like its taste. I’ll be honest, I don’t care if something is good for me if it doesn’t taste good. So, imagine my surprise, when I discovered KÖE, an organic kombucha, that I think actually tastes good.

For those that don’t know, kombucha is a fermented, slightly alcoholic, lightly effervescent drink. I never really looked deeply into its health benefits because I never liked its taste. But I do know many people that love it.

I gave KÖE (which rhymes with “know”) a chance and was pleasantly surprised. Supposedly it is the only kombucha that’s fruit-forward. It’s also USDA Organic, packed with probiotics and is guaranteed “Non-Alcoholic Verified” by its in-house lab and third-party testing. It’s marketed as a healthy, flavorful, and enjoyable beverage.

Currently, there are five flavors. There’s Raspberry Dragonfruit; Strawberry Lemonade; Mango; Blueberry Ginger; and Lemon Lime. I tried the Blueberry Ginger, and the Mango. All of them are certified USDA Oraganic; Non-GMO Project Verified; OU Kosher certified; vegan; dairy-free; and gluten-free.

While I do love the taste of blueberry, I also hate the taste of ginger so I had mixed feelings about trying the Blueberry Ginger drink but I have to admit I really liked it. I thought I would spike it with booze but I enjoyed so much I just decided to drink it straight out of the can. Although I do think it would go well with a subtle gin, something not too botanical, and of course vodka would be good in this case. Maybe even a silver tequila.

Speaking of tequila, I did mix the Mexican spirit with the Mango kombucha and that was a solid, simple cocktail. It was actually quite refreshing. It made me wish I had the Lemon Lime to play with.

As an FYI, KÖE is SoCal based and was designed for those seeking a delicious, healthful beverage without the vinegar-y taste of kombucha. With only 35 calories per can and five fruit forward flavors, KÖE’s probiotic rich formula is a good quarantine companion to support digestion and immunity. It also doesn’t need to be refrigerated to stay fresh.

KÖE’s base recipe of organic black tea, organic sugar cane and organic kombuca culture is fermented for four months. Also, each can contains 15mg of caffeine. By comparison, the average cola contains about 35mg of caffeine and an 8oz cup of coffee contains about 80mg of caffeine.

From what I sampled, this can be enjoyed on its own or as easy-going spiked libation.
KÖE is available at Amazon. Click here to find a store locator.
