TO SELL PLANT-BASED FRIED CHICKEN

Years ago, Kentucky Fried Chicken rebranded itself as KFC to distance itself from “fried”.  That was before the resurgence of the recent fried chicken craze. Well, now it’s almost distancing itself from “chicken” as it’s entering the popular and competitive meatless market with its own Beyond Meat plant-based offering.

Yes, KFC is launching a plant-based version of its famous fried chicken in roughly 50 locations throughout Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego.

Made by Beyond Meat, KFC’s plant-based chicken will be available in SoCal while supplies last. The company plans to closely monitor the popularity of its new offering to determine whether to make Beyond Fried Chicken available nationally.

Technically, this 100% plant-based chicken is not vegan as it is prepared in the same fryers as its traditional chicken.

The new SoCal offer includes a six or 12-piece nuggets combo with a dipping sauce.

WHAT IS BEYOND FRIED CHICKEN?
Beyond Fried Chicken (developed exclusively for KFC by our friends at Beyond Meat) was the first plant-based protein to be offered at a national chicken chain in the U.S. Beyond Fried Chicken packs all the delicious flavor you’ve come to expect from KFC into a plant-based option for our customers.

WHAT DOES “PLANT-BASED” MEAN?
Plant-based protein is derived from plants and not animals.

WHERE DOES THE PROTEIN IN BEYOND FRIED CHICKEN COME FROM?
The primary source of protein in Beyond Fried Chicken comes from soy, wheat, and pea proteins.

WHAT BEYOND FRIED CHICKEN PRODUCTS ARE AVAILABLE?
KFC Beyond Fried Chicken is available with a side of your favorite dipping sauce, such as our signature Finger Lickin’ Good sauce, or tossed in one of three tasty sauce options: Nashville Hot, Buffalo or Honey BBQ.

HOW IS BEYOND FRIED CHICKEN PREPARED? Beyond Fried Chicken is fried by the cooks in each participating KFC restaurant.

IS BEYOND FRIED CHICKEN VEGAN OR VEGETARIAN?
Beyond Fried Chicken is not vegetarian, vegan, or Certified Vegan. Beyond Fried Chicken nuggets and wings are 100% plant-based, but they are prepared in the same fryers as our world-famous Kentucky Fried Chicken, which may not be acceptable to certain types of vegetarian or vegan diets.

IS BEYOND FRIED CHICKEN GMO-FREE?
The ingredients of Beyond Fried Chicken are Non-GMO Project Verified. However, during cooking, Beyond Fried Chicken is fried in oil, which is not GMO-free.

IS BEYOND FRIED CHICKEN GLUTEN-FREE?
It is not.

IS BEYOND FRIED CHICKEN SAFE FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE A NUT ALLERGY?
Beyond Fried Chicken does not contain peanuts or tree nuts. However, it does contain peas, which are legumes. People with severe allergies to other legumes (such as peanuts) should be cautious when introducing pea protein into their diet because of the possibility of a pea allergy.

WHAT IS BEYOND FRIED CHICKEN BREADED IN?
Beyond Fried Chicken is breaded in an exclusive-to-KFC breading similar to the breading for KFC’s popcorn nuggets.
