HENDRICK’S GIN
GIANT CUCUMBER GARNISHER WOWS
Because everyone loves a good drink and a grand party, Hendrick’s Gin, which is infused with cucumber, unveiled what Ambassador Mark Stoddard describes as “an eye-popping, wondrously strange cucumber slicing device” that made its way across the U.S. over the summer with the sole purpose of offering the most beautifully garnished Hendrick’s Gin cocktails.
A cucumber-slicer on wheels, the Hendrick’s Grand Garnisher achieved road speeds of up to 25 mph thanks to a hybrid powertrain combining a large diesel motor and a well-dressed gentleman pedaling a large-wheeled bicycle. Believe it or not, it’s true. The 38-foot-long device relied upon an elaborate system of pneumatic tubing, interlocking gears and rotating blades to slice up to 18 cucumbers per hour.
“It’s not the most efficient way to garnish a cocktail,” explained Stoddard, “but we do believe it is the most spectacular.”
Over the summer the Hendrick’s Grand Garnisher commenced its maiden cross country voyage from New York City on June 14, which just happened to be World Cucumber Day, eventually making its way out west. The purpose of this sojourn was to end the misperception of the cucumber as an innocuous salad ingredient. As the core infusion that makes the fab Hendrick’s Gin, the powers that be believed “the cucumber deserves not only respect but wonder.”
And the proof is in the pudding, or in this case the cocktail glass. At a brilliantly over the top soiree at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, Hendrick’s Grand Garnisher wowed guests as libations flowed freely, including the tasty Noetic Negroni (equal parts Hendrick’s Gin, Aperitivo, and Bianco Vermouth), along with the ginny Super Bloom Punch. Of course, pours of Hendrick’s Gin on its own went over smashingly well.
Gin, good friends, old timey steampunk devices to curiously make cool cocktails set the tone for a fun night out. While the Grand Garnisher was the star of the evening, it was Hendrick’s Gin that stood center stage in the spotlight, proving itself a wondrous ingredient in daring and dynamic drinks.
