GRAY TAVERN
 STUDIO CITY GASTROPUB IS THE REAL DEAL

An upscale gastropub in Studio City, Gray Tavern boasts a reinvented and modern take on classic fare within a relaxed and urban setting where the fare is fresh and prepared with sustainable ingredients and features an eclectic menu by Executive Chef Josh Kennedy.

The Gray’s urban industrial design is carefully curated throughout the interior and exterior patio for a casual dining experience that compliments a canopy of flavors. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a fan of the cocktails so I’d recommend sticking to beer or wine to go along with the hearty and comforting comfort food.

During our recent visit, we started with the lovely Fig Salad prepared with black mission figs, arugula, burrata, aged balsamic and toast. I am a big fan of figs so maybe I was an easy mark but this was a stellar starter.

Other fab appetizers and tapas included the Popcorn Chicken, which was a tasty mix of marinated Mary’s chicken breast, honey sriracha, and black sesame seeds.

Consider the Mac & Cheese with Cavatappi (macaroni formed in a helical tube shape), five cheese fondue, and herbs a must-have. It’s comfort food at its beast. Another solid starter is the Ahi Tuna Tartare with pacific wild caught ahi tuna, salted cucumbers, sesame, avocado, and crispy lotus roots.

If you’re looking for an exciting entrée option, the Wild Mushroom Risotto with Crispy Hen of the Woods, Thai curry risotto, and lemon truffle oil is a winner. It’s hearty and so very satisfying.

Another big dish pick is The Burger, which features a Ground Chuck and short rib blend, bacon onion jam, Hopscotch Cheddar, fried shallots, kewpie mayo, and mixed greens. Addons include avocado, mac n’ cheese or fried egg for $3 each.

I have to say that the Gray Tavern outdoor back patio is the perfect place to getaway and get lost. Time spent in the relaxing setting with good company and good eats is what makes a night out a special evening. It’s the perfect spot for a chill brunch, a long and lazy lunch or a fun night out.
