FLAPPERS COMEDY CLUB & RESTAURANT
HOME OF LAUGHS & GOOD EATS…NO JOKE
Los Angeles can be argued is the center of the entertainment universe, and while that obviously means film, television, sports, and music, let’s not forget the rich history the city has in comedy. Many of the world’s best comedians started off at local comedy clubs. And indeed, that tradition hasn’t changed.
A night out in L.A. can include an evening at a posh club or a swanky bar or laughs at one of many leading comedy clubs, including Flappers Comedy Club and Restaurant in Burbank and Claremont. Notable celebrity comedians who have performed at Flappers include Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart, Gabriel Iglesias, Bill Burr, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, and Craig Shoemaker, among others.
And while the laughs are hearty and aplenty at Flappers, there’s a lot more going on here than just a two-drink minimum. Indeed, a night out here can also include a quality dinner. Now not everyone may want dinner in a darkened comedy club, but if you do then you’re in luck for good eats.
During our Friday night visit, we started with drinks, including an order of Mini-Mules—a tasting of any three of the bar’s mules. I opted for the Millionaire Mule, a boozy blend of Belvedere Vodka, lime juice, and ginger beer, along with the Watermelon Mule with vodka watermelon liqueur, lime juice, and ginger beer, and the To-Killa Mule made with tequila, lime juice, and ginger beer. It’s a definite fun way to start the night.
Another great libation choice to get you in a laughing mood is the Dirty Bathtub Martini prepared with Absolut Vodka, Tanqueray Gin, dry vermouth, olive juice, with bleu cheese stuffed olives. This one gets the job done.
Other good drink options include the Irish Ginger Sour made with Jameson Irish Whiskey, ginger liqueur, and fresh sour mix, along with the 21st Amendment Long Island Iced Tea made (no description necessary).
Solid starter items include Warm Baked Brie and Fruit served with a toasted garlic baguette, as well as a variety of fantastic fries, including Buffalo Style Fries; Cheesy Bacon Fries; Prime Rib Chili Cheese Fries; or Portobello Fries with Portobello mushrooms lightly breaded topped with shredded parmesan, parsley, and served with garlic aioli.
Good healthy options include Brussel Sprouts, and the Classic Caesar Salad.
There are plenty of pizza and burgers and sandwiches to choose from, and elevated entrée items include Pan-Seared Salmon served with sautéed cherry tomatoes, artichoke hearts, red onion, garlic, and spinach, in a white wine butter sauce with herbed basmati rice.
Although it’s an entrée, a great dish to share is the Homemade Mac & Cheese—a blend of three cheeses and pasta shells. Definitely add bacon. Or opt for the BBQ Chicken Mac & Cheese or the Prime Rib Chili Mac & Cheese.
Another solid option is the Chicken Caprese where a marinated chicken breast is sautéed and topped with fresh mozzarella, basil, tomatoes, and balsamic glaze with spaghetti tossed in olive oil, parsley, parmesan cheese, and garlic.
If you’re really feeling the laughs and you want to go for broke then go for dessert where your options include cheesecake, chocolate-chip cookies, and the delightful Chocolate Midnight Cake—a three-tier chocolate cake layered with chocolate frosting.
For a family-friendly funny feast, hit up the Two Milk Minimum, which happens every Saturday at 4:30 pm starring Michael Rayner of Sesame Street.
It should also be noted that Flappers is also home to Flappers Comedy University, "where learning is a joke.” One of the largest comedy schools in Los Angeles, the school offers classes in stand-up comedy, improvisation, marketing and promoting, writing for late night television, screenwriting, getting booked on the road, and more.
Flappers comedy clubs are located at 102 E. Magnolia Blvd in Burbank, and 532 W. 1st Street #218 in Claremont.
