PANN’S RESTAURANT
SERVING THE COMMUNITY SINCE 1958

A local staple in the Ladera / Crenshaw neighborhood, Pann’s Restaurant is a familiar site to most Angelo’s who take surface streets to and from LAX. A throwback to 50’s era coffee shops, the folks at Pann’s believe in serving foods that has to be cooked fast, taste good, and done by someone with a whole lot of heart.

Founded in 1958, Pann’s was started by George and Rena Panagopoulos, who moved to California to start their own successful family business. George, a Greek immigrant, eventually enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in Italy during World War II, where, as a cook, he was known for his “wonderful food.” Crafty, he traded with locals for fresh vegetables and meats that couldn’t be found elsewhere.

Pann’s landmark futuristic classic Googie design is courtesy of Armet & Davis, known as the Frank Lloyd Wright of '50s coffee shops. They also designed the Hollywood Bowl. Enter the local institution and you’ll quickly notice their comfy, red cushioned booths and rock wall décor.

The iconic coffee shop elevates diner fare with dishes like Bouillabaisse and BBQ (that they smoke in their alto sham on premises) all created by Chef Patrick from France. Killer milkshakes and their "Sock it to Me" cake will leave you content and with a smile. Beer, wine and low-alcohol cocktails are also available.

During a recent visit for breakfast, we took owner Jim Poulos’ advice and ordered the Fresh Spinach three-egg omelet with sautéed fresh spinach, mushrooms and Swiss cheese. We also went with the house-made Spicy Cajun Andouille Sausage, and the Southern Fried Pork Chops, served with lightly breaded fresh Midwestern grain-fed chops along with a side of Country Potatoes. All breakfasts come with your choice of fresh baked buttermilk biscuit or buttered toast. The homemade biscuit is a must. Forget calories, it’s so delicious. You can opt for jam, honey or gravy, which really, if you’re going for the comfort food breakfast, the gravy is the way to go. And just because, we split an order of their Golden French Toast with powered sugar on top.

The spinach omelette is a great choice for a healthy morning selection. For anybody looking for a hearty start to their day, you can’t go wrong with the pork chops. And the fluffy and filling French toast is just too perfect to pass up.

Pann’s breakfast combo is the most popular morning item on the menu. For $11.75, you select one three classic griddle breakfasts (waffle, buttermilk pancakes or French toast) served with two extra large farm fresh eggs, and one side—choose from famous Fried Chicken Wings; Country Ham Slick: Thick Bacon Slices, Pork Sausage Patties; Homemade Spicy Chicken Link; Pork Hot Link: Spicy Beef Hot Link.

Champagne and mimosas are also breakfast options. Breakfast at Pann’s is hearty and will sustain you for the rest of the day, just like they’ve been doing for almost 50 years. During your next visit, keep an eye out for founder Rena, who at age 95 is the “Queen of Hospitality.” You can still find her most days greeting and embracing her long time patrons and warmly welcoming new ones.

Pann’s Restaurant is located at 6710 La Tijera Blvd. Hours: Sun – Wed: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Thurs – Sat: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Call: 310-670-1441. Free parking in lot.
