L.A. LIVE YARD HOUSE
OFFERING QUALITY COMFORT FOOD
TO START YOUR DOWNTOWN EVENING

Looking to get your downtown evening off to a rousing start, consider getting things under way at the L.A. LIVE Yard House. Whether you’ll be spending the night at Staples Center or at a concert at Club Nokia or Nokia Theatre, or dancing, bowling or catching a movie at any of the other nearby venues, there’s nothing like delicious comfort food to get things going.

The Yard House is an upscale-casual eatery known for its extensive menu, classic rock music, and world's largest selection of draft beer. From classic lagers to more obscure ales and stouts they take pride in noting they have a draft beer flavor for everyone. Each Yard House location features a transparent keg room containing more than 600 barrels, some 1,000 gallons of beer, and an endless fleet of tap handles - 100 to 250 - depending on the location.

Their menu of American cuisine includes an impressive selection of appetizers, salads, pastas, sandwiches, individual-size pizzas, seafood, steaks, ribs and chops. Come hungry, leave completely satisfied.

Always packed right around game time, The Yard House has numerous flat screen TVs so it’s a great place to catch the game if you don’t have tickets. Think sports bar with an exceptional kitchen, and loads of beers!

Looking to start with an appetizer, they’re known for their impressive Onion Ring Tower, beer battered, dusted with parmesan and served with chipotle and ranch dipping sauces, but since I’ve had that several times before, as well as their tasty dips (Lobster, Crab & Artichoke, and Spinach Cheese Dip) we opted for something more daring from the menu.

The Moo Shu Egg Rolls, prepared with chicken, chili cream cheese, carrots, green onions, cilantro and spinach served with apple ginger plum sauce, was a winner. And the Classic Sliders are a must! They’re four mini burgers served with cheddar cheese, house special sauce, fries and pickle are not to be missed. The Béarnaise Sliders, four mini burgers served with fried onions, béarnaise sauce, fries and pickle, were tasty but I definitely recommend the Classic. The Seared Ahi Sashimi, seared rare, lightly blackened served with soy vinaigrette, wasabi and pickled ginger, was delightful.

These picks went well with the beer samples we ordered. The rotating beer selections, which change every week, give you a little taste of several kinds of beers in case you want to expand on what you normally drink. This is really a great way to see what else is out there.

Favorites menu items at Yard House include their decadent Mac + Cheese served with chicken breast, applewood smoked bacon, wild mushrooms, cheddar and parmesan with campanelle pasta and white truffle oil; it’s deadly and delicious.

Other specialties include their hearty, half pound burgers as well as their tasty individual pizzas; note, their Four Cheese served with fresh tomato sauce, fontina, ricotta, mozzarella and parmesan while exceedingly tasty is overwhelming to the senses.

For our entrees we went with the Fresh Island Fish prepared with a Macadamia Nut Crust that went perfect with the recommended Bavarian Hefenwiezen (Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse), and the house favorite Orange Peel Chicken. While the chicken dish did hit the spot, it left me wondering if I should have tried something else. That’s one of the problems, if you want to call it that, with Yard House…just too many tasty and tempting selections. Guess I’ll have to just go back for more.

And since you can’t leave without dessert, we decided to split the Fresh Baked Brownie topped with ice cream (mint chocolate chip, caramel or vanilla). Served nice and warm just out of the oven it was out of this world. It doesn’t really get better than a delicious hot brownie served with ice cream on top.

Be warned, after time spent at Yard House you may be too tired to continue with your night out so pace yourself, but being active is recommended to avoid food coma…but what a way to go.
