THE MELT
POPULAR GRILLED CHEESE JOINT GETS MAKEOVER
What started off as a popular grilled cheese joint, The Melt has become so much more recently with its newly expanded menu with additional comfort foods like burger melts and fries!
The new menu exemplifies the celebration of cheese the restaurant was founded on, along with the company’s signature twist on American classics, including board member Michael Mina’s signature upside down pickle.
With locations at Sunset & Vine, as well as FIGat7th in downtown, and Glendale, The Melt proclaims its mission is to ‘Serve Happiness.’ This fast casual eatery combines chef-inspired, 100% all-natural, wholesome foods with innovative online ordering technology in an eco-friendly environment.
During our recent visit for lunch, we feasted on several new menu items to get a feel and better understanding of the new modifications. We started with burger melts—all made with custom Angus and Wagyu blend and cooked medium, unless requested otherwise. The Mission, made witih Monterey Jack, charred jalapeño, avocado, pickled onions, served with spicy ketchup on a potato bun, is fiery and a crowd-pleaser. The Original, prepared with aged cheddar, lettuce, tomato with Melt sauce on a potato bun, is a solid, no frills burger, while the Double Bacon BBQ, made with aged cheddar, double bacon, grilled onions, tomato and served with BBQ sauce on a potato bun, is a newfound favorite. There’s something so right about bacon BBQ burger and this one does not disappoint.
If you’re looking for a melt sandwich at The Melt, we really enjoyed the ‘Shroom, a wonderful mix of Monterey Jack, mushrooms, grilled onions, spinach with spicy brown mustard on a wheat bun.
And of course no visit to a burger joint, or grilled cheese shop, is complete without a side of fries and at The Melt you have your choice of Naked or Well Dressed. The Naked fries are thinly cut Russet potatoes with Melt Spice, while the Well Dressed come with creamy aged cheddar, Fontina and Jack, crumbled bacon with crispy onions—I say that’s the way to go. You might as well get more bang for just a dollar more.
If you have room for dessert, you can opt soft serve (nice but boring) but I saw go for the S’more, a decadent concoction of chocolate marshmallow a la mode. This dish does not fool around, and neither does the gooey, cheesy goodness at The Melt.
The Melt is located at 6290 Sunset Blvd.
