WEHO BISTRO
A WEST HOLLYWOOD HAVEN FOR FINE FRENCH FARE

A favorite dining destination of West Hollywood residents, as well as lovers of fine French fare, is the popular WeHo Bistro—a wonderful place for delicious cuisine and tasty wines in a casual, yet inviting setting. The fact that they offer free parking in the middle of crazy West Hollywood is a total added bonus.

Walk into the charming WeHo Bistro on the corner of busy La Cienega and Santa Monica Boulevards, and you enter into a relaxing bistro where relaxation is only a glass of wine or mimosa away.

During our recent visit for dinner, we enjoyed the company of the bistro’s friendly owners as they recommended a bevy of their favorite dishes. That meant starting with one of the best mimosas you’ll find in town (a weekend brunch staple) before moving on to some really wonderful wines.

Food-wise, we began with a trio of soups—mushroom, gazpacho, and French Onion. I’m not a big fan of gazpacho but their gazpacho was very tasty. I absolutely loved the mushroom, and French Onion soups, especially the extremely flavorful French Onion.

If you’re looking for hearty brunch fare, you can’t go wrong with the fine Croque Madam—a Croque Monsieur (grilled ham and emmental Swiss cheese) with a sunny-side up organic egg on top. That with a mimosa or glass of wine on a weekend and you’ll find yourself in French heaven.

If you want to keep things somewhat light, the Crab or Cobb Salad with free range chicken breast, ham, bacon, avocado, tomatoes, hard-boiled egg, cheddar cheese, chives, wine and mustard vinaigrette are sure-fire winners. Although, let’s be honest, there isn’t anything really light in a Cobb salad, but it sure feels like you’re behaving.

If you’re really in the mood for French food, there’s always Quiche, and WeHo Bistro’s is light and airy although somewhat bland. We’re not talking huge, oversized portions here, which is a comfort.

For anyone looking for more filling fare, you can’t go wrong with the Portuguese Cod, which is a little fiery with pepper, and the Chicken Dijonaisse—free range chicken breast in a Dijon mustard sauce served with potatoes dauphinoise and tomato Provencal. Likewise, the Filet Mignon with Peppercorn Mushroom Sauce, also served with potato dauphinoise and tomato Provencal, is a great option for hungry meat-eaters.

For dessert, we absolutely loved the Brazilia, a decadent and delicious chocolate cake.

A good glass of wine along with fine French fare and you have the recipe for a wonderful meal (breakfast, brunch or dinner). I found time spent at WeHo Bistro to be relaxing and completely enjoyable. If you can’t get away to France for a killer meal, a trip to West Hollywood is as good as it gets.

WeHo Bistro is located at 1040 N La Cienega Blvd in West Hollywood. Open daily 8:30am to 10:30pm. Call (310) 657-9696.
