THE HOLLYWOOD CORNER
BREAKFAST HOT SPOT THAT HITS THE SPOT

Located at the former Doughboys location on Highland Ave, The Hollywood Corner, affectionately known as The Corner by locals, is quickly becoming a favorite for its comfort food staples.

Believing bigger is better, quality, oversized portions are the name of the game here, from their giant and filling coffee, to the pressed pancake sandwiches you just won’t be able to finish.

Offering creative and heart-friendly dishes such as their veggie sandwich, as well as the Quinoa Cakes Benedict (3 poached eggs or egg whites over brown rice and quinoa cakes with spinach and red sauce with or without goat cheese), the Soy Quinoa Breakfast (prepared with almonds, raisins, dried apricots, cinnamon, brown sugar and soy milk), as well as the Manouche Avocado Herb Pizza with thyme, roasted sesame seeds, sumac, olive oil with feta cheese, avocado, basil, tomato and cucumbers, The Corner offers something sensational for everyone.

During our recent breakfast visit, we started with the Corner Breakfast Burrito (a giant flour tortilla filled with scrambled eggs, soyrizo, potatoes, peppers, onions, cheddar cheese, cilantro, BBQ sauce, served with sides of sour cream, pico de gallo or BBQ sauce) that proved to be a hearty winner. The soyrizo on the menu is a nice, healthy touch and it definitely delivers. If you’re a chorizo lover like I am, you won’t even know the difference.

We also went with the B.Y.O.B. (Build Your Own Breakfast) which features 2 eggs any style with your choice of one breakfast meat (pork sausage, chicken sausage, chicken breast, turkey bacon, pork bacon, soyrizo, veggie sausage), we opted for the tasty soyrizo, as well as your choice of one of the following: buttermilk pancake, Brioche French toast, yogurt, cottage cheese, fresh seasonal fruit, tomatoes or Morning Potatoes. I wholeheartedly recommend the savory French toast. While I was a little disappointed that the soyrizo was served on the side and not prepared with the scrambled eggs, as I do at home, but once I combined them myself it was delicious delight.

We just had to order the Pressed Jacks, which was probably overkill on our part, because they sound so crazy. A giant buttermilk pancake filled with your choice of sausage, eggs and Swiss cheese with maple syrup, or fried chicken, eggs and cheddar cheese with white gravy, pressed on a Panini grill served with Morning Potatoes, this is a very original dish. Way too much for one or even two people this is definitely one to share or to eat as lunch and dinner later that same day.

Because, honestly, overkill wasn’t a real concern, we topped off breakfast with one red velvet cupcake that was ever so decadent and delightful.
