CULT
THIRD STREET PROMENADE’S NEW COZY CORNER CAFÉ

The Third Street Promenade corner directly across from the mall is prime Santa Monica real estate. For years, it was home to a cool crepe spot that was vacant for some time. Now, from our friends at nearby Lanea, comes Cult—a casual café offering hearty cult classics.

In fact, Chef Kim Vu of Sorry Not Sorry is overseeing the kitchen and menu.

“I plan to make my own versions of L.A.’s greatest cult food classics – think avocado toast, or my interpretation of a Father’s Office burger,” Chef Kim explains.

And it’s these “cult food classics” that define the menu. These tried and true favorites embody the L.A. dining scene, which is defined by waves of these food and beverage trends that have cult like following.

“We hope you come to love our versions of these iconic dishes and drinks against the gorgeous backdrop of Santa Monica Beach,” declares the Cult team. “Cult will aim to become the easy dining option the area has been craving with its experiential social spaces, third wave coffee program, and playful and easy drinking cocktails. Just three blocks from the ocean, Cult is the perfect destination for both locals and out-of-town tourists. The space features an inviting and intimate dining room, a take-out window, and spacious patio, perfect for all day al fresco dining.”

During our recent visit for outdoor dinner and drinks, we started with a light and easy Watermelon Sugar High cocktail, and a refreshing Paloma. The cocktails are canned and pre-made but come in a glass when drinking at Cult.

As for the Cult fare, there are plenty of dynamic dishes perfect for sharing to choose from. You can’t go wrong with the Loaded Garlic Fries prepared with bacon, cheddar, and sour cream. This is the embodiment of satisfying comfort food. And it pairs perfectly with the Baby Fancy Burger—a seasoned quarter pounder made with chipotle aioli, caramelized onions, crumbled blue cheese, and wild arugula on a brioche bun.

The Caramelized Onion Avocado Toast—prepared with caramelized onions, blistered tomatoes, crumbled blue cheese, and chipotle aioli—is also a solid dish to share or indulge.

Another good option to share or enjoy as an entrée is the Seasoned Chicken Breast Tenders. Made with buttermilk marinated chicken breast with crispy breading, this one is really tasty. And for you hot-heads, there’s a Nashville hot option as well.

Open Tuesday thru Sunday, Cult is a terrific spot for outdoor eats, especially for breakfast, lunch and happy hour.

cult

Cult is located at 1460 Third Street Promenade. Open Tuesday – Thursday 9am to 9pm; Friday 9am to 10pm; Saturday 10am to 11pm; and Sunday 10am to 9pm. Call 424-835-1554.
