Thursday, July 15: Alex Band

The inspiring sound of ALEX BAND’s powerful, emotionally charged voice is immediately recognizable to millions of music lovers, thanks to modern-day classics like “Adrienne,” “Our Lives” and the chart-topping hit “Wherever You Will Go,” which Billboard recently named the #1 Adult Pop Song of the Decade. Now, he brings us his first solo effort We’ve All Been There. His debut will be released June 29 on his own AMB label through EMI. It contains the first new material we’ve heard from the former leader of The Calling in half a decade. If his fans feel that Band is long overdue for a return to the spotlight, the L.A. native has himself been chafing at the bit to make his return throughout the last five years, which he spent in musical exile. But the time has finally come for that voice to inspire us once again. “I’ve lived with these songs for years,” says Band, “and the whole point is to share them with everybody now. I’ve finally got creative control, which is the main reason I went through all this,” he says. “So now I’m starting completely over as a solo artist and reintroducing myself to the world.” It’s safe to say the world will be overjoyed to have Alex Band back.

Wednesday, July 21: Surf Roots Tour featuring Anuhea, The Green, Stranger, Tamarama

With a delicate balance of fragility, strength and sass, Hawaiian born singer/songwriter ANUHEA blends engaging lyrics, acoustic soul, pop and reggae into a style that has earned her a reputation as Hawaii 's newest rising star. Anuhea's signature guitar rhythms, sultry vocals and honest song writing weave acoustic soul, R&B, jazz and blues with pop appeal reminiscent of a female version of multi-million selling Hawaii based Jack Johnson. A naturally gifted songwriter, Anuhea's word choices are a clever balance of emotions where each song tells a unique story, each story a lesson learned. The future is bright for this Maui songbird. Anuhea's determination, passion, optimism and raw talent are the foundations for the success that is to come. "I just feel lucky that I've found my dream and am able to pursue it... My main goal as a music-maker is to help people find theirs, whatever it may be." Fluent in Hawaiian Anuhea is proud of her island roots and plans to honoring her heritage by utilizing her growing fame for the good of her land and people.

KROQ Locals Only Showcase featuring Nations Afire, Fight From Above, Cromwell, Kingsley
KROQ Locals Only Showcases feature some of the best local talent in the market.
Nations Afire is a solid mix of punk/rock/hardcore. The 4-piece band is comprised of current and former members of the more significant punk and hardcore bands of the decade: Rise Against, Ignite, and Death By Stereo. For a little aggression and a lot energy this might be your target show. These guys have crafted an intense blend of pure rock with the release of their debut album The Uprising. Having recently completed a European tour with NOFX, Rise Against, and The Get Up Kids, this is surely a show you punks will not want to miss.
Los Angeles based Fight From Above brings in the indie-pop/rock music with passion. “We love LA, we hate LA”, says lead singer Justin Miner. This group has successfully captured that feeling with their full-length debut album L.A. Kids. Insightful lyrics, crafted pop hooks, and intriguing energy, has cohesively sounded their influences into something that hasn’t been heard. Having been compared to bands like The Kooks, Phoenix, and Hot Hot Heat, this indie rock group is creating their own sound with their undeniable reputation for passionate live shows. Their hit single “Between The Curves” is getting consistent plays on KROQ and their following is only getting bigger and crazier.

Hyper Crush, Far East Movement, Cataracs, Dev

Los Angeles based band Hyper Crush have some of the coolest dance tunes in town. This electro-pop group is straight out of the 80’s and known simply as Donny, Preston, and Holly. With pals like LMFAO, this group is armed with funky beats, fresh rhymes, and enough neon to make you put on your Ray-Bans. These three will surely get you on the dance floor in no time. Their album The Arcade features the power-hit songs “Sex and Drugs” and “Disco Tech”. Pure electro power is what these three mad geniuses have produced and for sure make this the party anthem of all time. Grab your shades and get ready to move.

Joining the electro forces is another LA based group Far East Movement (also known as FM.) Consisting of Kev Nish, Prohgress, J-Spliff and DJ Virman this fresh crew represent the new generation of fly music. They have also created huge industry buzz with their international appeal, energetic live shows, and radio play with their chart topping single “Girls On The Dance Floor”. Having recently toured with N*E*R*D, collaborations with Ya Boy, Cee-Lo, LMFAO (to name a few), they are have already left their mark. Far East Movement is the name for their music, lifestyle, and party. Come join the madness and see what they’re all about.

The party’s not over yet. Berkeley based duo, The Cataracs bring their cool, dry beats and neo-psychedelic flows to the electro scene. Cyrano and Campa (only 18, ladies) represent the Bay Area and put it on the music map with their innovation of making music beyond their category and staying true to their roots of the Mac Dre era. Having recently signed to a major label, The Cataracs are for sure going to launch the Bay Area’s Hyphy Movement into the upper atmosphere.

Easy Star All-Stars, Cas Haley

The Easy Star All-Stars not only know how to jam with some funky reggae, but put on a show guaranteed to be unforgotten. Combining their musical versatility with their instrumental and vocal harmonies, this band has got it down. This Jamaican ensemble recreates the classics with their dub style. Having already covered Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon entitled Dub Side Of The Moon; Radiohead’s OK Computer into Radiodread, and The Beatles Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band entitled Easy Stars Lonely Hearts Dub Band, they have topped the charts and proved themselves as an international reggae act. With a loyal following, The Easy Star All-Stars bring together fans of reggae, classic rock, and indie rock into one big family. Sharing the same label is newcomer Cas Haley.

Cas Haley is breaking through the reggae scene and leaving a lasting impression. After finishing as Runner-Up in America’s Got Talent and selling over 30,000 copies of his debut album, Haley is marking the scene with his pop-infected island grooves and elements of soul and blues. With heavy influences from Bob Marley, Sublime, and UB40, Haley’s signature style has matured with the release of his sophomore album “Connection”. Enjoy the chill vibes, rocking guitars, and funky horns with his simple truth and thoughtful lyrics. Grab a cocktail and groove to the soothing melodies.
