CHOMP EATERY & JUICE STATION
GOOD EATS THAT ARE GOOD FOR YOU

I first heard of Santa Monica’s Chomp Eatery & Juice Station in conjunction with a National Milk Chocolate Day promotion. Chomp was touting its Chocolate Wasted concoction, which is actually a delicious dairy free drink that contains raw almonds, cacao and maca for a healthy blend of antioxidants and energy. Besides, who doesn’t love a chocolate beverage? So the chocolate goodness got my attention and the next step was heading down there to try the rest of their menu.

Chomp Eatery & Juice Station was born from individuals who share the belief that you should not sacrifice taste of delicious food with health conscious dietary decisions. Eating such flavorful food should not have the end result of the dreaded food coma. You should be able to enjoy a full meal and feel good about yourself. Chomp sources as many ingredients as they can from local, sustainable, and organic farms.

According to the folks at Chomp, the word “Chomp” makes you envision taking a large bite, enjoying the crunch, juiciness, and other amazing textures and flavors of that food. “This experience will usually lead to other chomps until your plate is finished,” says cofounder Rolan Pongpuntara. “With every plate and item we serve, we want you to go through this feeling. We use only the freshest and highest quality ingredients, tailored by our chefs and juice mixologists, to satisfy taste buds and support a healthy lifestyle.”

During our recent visit for weekend brunch—this was after a pretty strenuous beach run—we started with the hearty Breakfast Ciabatta made with your choice of applewood bacon or homemade sausage, along with eggs, potatoes, avocado, American cheese, Chomp salsa, tomatoes and red onions. This is one bad boy of a breakfast bonanza and it is the perfect post workout meal with an ample amount of protein. Sure the ciabatta and potatoes (um, tater tots!) are extra carbs but if you workout hard enough, you’re entitled.

Likewise, The Breakfast Burrito is another motherload of a dish. It features the same ingredients as the Breakfast Ciabatta but in burrito form. You can’t really go wrong with either.

If you’re looking for a cold-pressed juice, well, there are many dazzling options. There are simple juices like Clarity made with watermelon and Chia seeds, to Nut Mylk creations like the Wake-Up Call, which is a delectable dose of almond, honey, filtered water, sea salt, espresso, cinnamon, and vanilla. This has a great pick me up zing to it along with a solid and satisfying taste. And of course don’t forget the delicious Chocolate Wasted.

Smoothies are served in a mason jar and are extremely pleasing. There’s the Chocolate Peanut Buttercup Protein (almond milk, organic agave, chocolate protein, organic peanut butter, banana and flax seed); Paleo Cacao Avocado (almond milk, banana, avocado, organic almond butter, organic raw cacao, raw honey); and Mocha Monkey (organic espresso, almond milk, organic raw cacao, flax seed, organic agave, banana), among others but these are simply sensational.

Other fine and filling brunch options include the Breakfast Burger prepared with eggs, Tillamook cheddar cheese, basil, aioli, caramelized onions and fresh avocado on a brioche bun. This, along with The Famous Burger, made with 100% Angus beef, applewood bacon, caramelized red onions, tomatoes, arugula, infused mustard, homemade mayo and pickles on a brioche bun are first rate burgers that are extremely satisfying.

If you’re looking for a wrap, the Chompotle Wrap, made with 100% all-natural chicken, mixed greens, tomatoes, red onions, whole grain mustard, provolone cheese, chipotle aioli wrapped on a gourmet white tortilla, is a solid option. I like that these menu items are very flavorful and yet made to be as healthy as possible.

While Chomp looks very casual, it’s pretty simple inside, they are really serving some very nice and impressive food that’s also good for you.  That’s always impressive and appreciated.

Chomp Eatery & Juice Station is located at 1612 Santa Monica Blvd in Santa Monica. Call 424-238-3398.
