K-TOWN BUFFALO WILD WINGS
BIG SCREEN, BEERS & WINGS!!

I’m not really a sports bar kind of guy as I prefer better quality eats and definitely demand better cocktails than your average run of the mill sports bar can manage. But, every once-in-a-while, I don’t mind watching the big fight or big game in a sports bar setting—you know, ample big screens with grub and suds to go around.

At Buffalo Wild Wings, the setting is sporty, yet inviting, and the eats are hearty and satisfying. Known for its? ?signature wings, 16 sauces, five seasonings, a wide variety of beers and specialty cocktails, it’s a step above Hooters, minus the eye candy.

The team of restauranteurs Karim Webb and Ed Barnett, co-founders of PCF Restaurant Management, are experts at running Buffalo Wild Wings, or B-Dubs as it’s also known, with franchised locations in Koreatown, Baldwin Hills, Torrance, and Carson.

The K-town BWW is huge with ?a capacity of 282 guests includes ?62 HD LCD television sets? and? projection screens, ???acoustics? that reduce? vibrations? and ??top of the line? ?sound systems ?that ?were designed ?specifically to allow for two dining experiences, watching the game with clear surround sound or a calm and quieter experience where families with kids can have a ?conversation during game time??.? The layout? ?includes? ?a horseshoe-shaped bar in the center, with huge LED televisions all around.

As minority business owners, Webb and Barnett are excited to expand their footprint into new and ethnically diverse areas.

"If I go into a restaurant in a community that I know is diverse and I don't see people that look like the residents in that community, I take note of that,” says Webb.

“Part of our mission is to be a good community partner providing job training and employment opportunities to the young people in the areas we serve,” says Barnett.

He and Barnett  pride  themselves on being  responsive  to unique needs of each community their units serve and their ability to engage stakeholders therein.

Over the past 6 weeks, PCF has worked closely with Korean Churches for Community Development (KCCD), in partnership with Community Career Development, Inc. (CCD) to fill over 130 job opportunities. Through the API JOBS (Job Opportunities & Business Success) Initiative, PCF was able to do the majority of hiring locally via outreach in the community and hiring fairs. “Part of our mission is to be a good community partner pro-viding  job  training  and  employment  opportunities  to  the  young  people  in  the  areas  we serve,”  says  Barnett.  Currently,  there  are  no  other  national  brands  owned  by  African American’s in Koreatown and PCF is excited to change that.

During our recent visit for dinner at the K-town location, we started with the boozy Buffalo Zoo cocktail made with Bacardi Superior, Grey Goose, Jim Beam, and DeKuyper Peachtree schnapps along with Ocean Spray orange juice and Dole pineapple juice. While I prefer less sweet drinks, it what I’d expect at the sports bar. This is the kind of place where my fussy palate is better off with beer, maybe wine, or shots.

To start our night out, we ordered the House Sampler with Ultimate nachos, beer-battered onion rings, mozzarella sticks and boneless wings spun in Buffalo Wild Wings sauce or dry seasoning served with marinara sauce, southwestern ranch dressing and your choice of blue cheese or ranch dressing. This is a hell of a hearty appetizer definitely made for sharing, unless you want a fried feast for one—you might regret that in the morning. This is as good as it gets in a sports bar setting with a nice cold beer at your side.

Other small bite picks include the Fried Pickles—cornmeal-breaded dill pickle slices fried and served with southwestern ranch dressing—and the Street Tacos—three snack-size soft flour tortillas filled with garlic-tossed grilled chicken, house-made pico de gallo, southwestern ranch dressing and fresh cilantro.

If you’re ravenous, get the Big Jack Daddy Burger with hickory-smoked pulled pork, crispy onion rings, cheddar jack cheese, Honey BBQ sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and red onions served on a savory burger. Natural cut French fries come on the side. This burger beast is a crowd pleaser for sure. But make sure to save room for the wings—traditional or boneless. It is what they’re famous for. Boneless wings do come as part of the House Sampler.

If you save room for dessert, my pick is the Mudslide with Kahlua and Baileys blended with ice cream and Ketel One vodka but then again, I’m a big fan of liquid dessert. Otherwise, you can’t go wrong with the Chocolate Fudge Cake—a big rich slice of chocolate fudge cake drizzled with chocolate sauce and served with vanilla ice cream—or the Loaded Ice Cream—creamy ice cream drizzled with chocolate and caramel sauce served with crispy cinnamon sugar tortilla chips.

At the K-town Buffalo Wild Wings, the setting is inviting, the big screens are aplenty, the grub is solid and the drinks are thirst-quenching. You can’t really ask for more in you want low key with game or two to watch while you down wings and beers. Sounds good to me.

The Koreatown Buffalo Wild Wings is located at 3150 Wilshire Blvd. Open daily 11am to 2am. Call 213-201-6570.
