Looking for a good happy hour on the west side?  I suggest you get to know Birdie G’s in Santa Monica.  Located alongside Bergamot Station and art gallery row on industrial Michigan Avenue, the lovely restaurant with cozy outdoor seating is billed as where fine food and good people meet.

Celebrating regional American cookery and timeless family recipes with a nod to the nostalgic spirit of supper clubs thrown in for good measure, nearly everything is made in-house, with an emphasis on zero-waste, and seasonal ingredients are sourced from local farmers, ranchers and fishers aligned with planet-friendly values and practices.

Early Birdie’s Happy Hour is offered daily from 5-6pm in The Bird’s Nest (bar and lounge). Refined offerings include Corned Beef Tongue, Caesar Salad, Caesar Fries, as well as Reuben Fries (corned beef, sauerkraut and smoked remoulade).

Hearty happy hour options include the Kishka Burger made with seared blood sausage, Hook’s Swiss, cornichon, red onion, persimmon comeback sauce and a sesame pretzel bun.  $25 for a happy hour burger may be more than you’d like to spend but it is a damn fine burger—quite spectacular really.  Another hearty dish is the Pickle Chick—fried half chicken, potato breading and dill pickle hot sauce.

Current Happy Hour cocktails include the Staycation Summer—lime, kumquat, strawberry brandy and tequila—and the Third Time’s a Charm—lemon, rosemary, vanilla, elderflower and vodka.  Both cocktails go for $12 apiece.

Birdie G’s offers a comfy and chic setting that’s perfect to unwind for happy hour.  Maybe afterwards stay for a divine dinner.
