ART BEYOND THE GLASS VI
SUPER BOWL OF COCKTAIL EVENTS IS BACK!

There are three things that tell me that summer has damn well started: My birthday happens June 10 and my over-the-top celebrating leaves me exhausted and somewhat guild-ridden; the weather starts getting too damn hot for my liking; and another sensational Art Beyond the Glass (ABTG) extravaganza looms at the end of the month.

Now in its sixth year, ABTG VI is back for another day of drinking for a good cause. Taking place on Sunday, June 25 at Los Globos in Silver Lake, proceeds will benefit The Moth, a Peabody Award-winning nonprofit organization that promotes the art and craft of storytelling while honoring and celebrating the diversity and commonality of the human experience. Marking its 20th anniversary this month, The Moth presents open mic storytelling competitions in Los Angeles and cities around the world.

What I really love about ABTG is that it’s a bartender event put on by bartenders—meaning the city’s best bartenders man the bar but also donate their artwork (photography, painting, sculpture), play DJ, perform the live entertainment (spoken word to live music) and anything else that needs to be done to ensure that everyone has a great time drinking for a good cause.  Now I’ll drink to that!

I still remember being blown away by Edwin Cruz of Winsome at the first ABTG with his mix of mezcal and mole sauce, which aptly cured my hangover. That and a Bloody Mary made with Sailor Jerry Rum, a bloody mix of beer and barbeque sauce, and a whole stick of candied bacon just because. Since then the creativity has only reached new heights. Who can forget the El Silencio Mezcal luge last year?

Props to ABTG for going national last year but it will always remain L.A.’s premier cocktail culture festival in my book or as I like to call it, the Super Bowl of all L.A. cocktail events.  This year Los Globos will host the boozy bonanza, which is great seeing as it’s a massive, two-story venue with multiple rooms with state-of-the-art sound and lighting. I just hope the air conditioning will be running on high without issue.

Tickets for ABTG VI are on sale at Eventbrite. General Admission includes cocktails, art, entertainment, and bar bites. In addition, guests will be able to purchase bartender art, buy raffle tickets and bid on silent auction items such as artwork, photography, rare spirits and more. All proceeds from ABTG VI will be donated to The Moth.
